New Pets Help Autistic Children Develop Socially

Researchers in France found that introducing a pet to an autistic child after the age of 5 promoted development in social skills like sharing and offering comfort.  No improvement was seen in children who had pets since birth or who did not have pets.  Although the study was small and more research is needed in the area, pets promote social interaction and strengthen family bonds.  In what other conditions have you encouraged your patients to utilize pet therapy?
