A diet including fruit may not affect glycemic control of patients with type 2 diabetes

fruitsA study published in the Nutrition Journal concluded that patients consuming a diet of two or less pieces of fruit daily showed no difference in weight loss or HbA1C versus those who did not restrict their fruit intake.  The study consisted of 63 patients who were newly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and wanted to see how fruit restriction affected glycemic control.  Patients were randomized to a high-fruit or low-fruit diet in this parallel design, open-label trial.  What dietary changes do you recommend in patients with type 2 diabetes?
