How to Stop Diabetes From Starting

20121105_003The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently released statistics which compared the evidence of prediabetes in individuals over the age of 20 from 2005-2010. By 2010, one in three U.S. adults (an estimated 79 million persons) had prediabetes. According to the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), an estimated 89% of individuals were unaware of their condition. The CDC hopes to bring awareness to the growing population and implement  lifestyle programs which include dietary changes, increase physical activity, and modest weight loss to prevent progress of prediabetes to type 2 diabetes. How do you bring awareness to younger patients regarding their risk of prediabetes? How do you encourage them to follow a healthier lifestyle?
